Things to Do Over the Summer With Your Family

Thursday, December 6, 2012

Before summer arrives is the time to try to find things to do for your family. The kids get out of school, and you suddenly have a houseful of kids with full brains and restless bodies. You will need to start giving them activities quickly for the sake of your sanity. There are several ways to find activities for your whole family. You would be wise to think about activities in terms of small, medium, and large activities. It might sound strange, but it will be a helpful tool for you to plan your summer.
Small activities are the ones that you need for those short periods of time during the day. They could include options like reading your preschooler a book or have them read for ten or fifteen minutes. Another small activity could be watching a twenty minute cartoon. Basically think of small activities as taking up to twenty minutes.
Medium activities take a little more planning. Activities like crafts, cleaning projects, or playing outdoors would be medium things to do. Maybe you are not crafty. Anymore, you do not have to be crafty. All you have to do is find craft blogs, and you should be set with ideas for life. You might feel bad having your kids help with cleaning projects, but there are ways to make it fun. It really is good for your kids to learn to clean and organize, so summer break is a good time for this to happen.
Large activities are all-day activities like taking a trip to the ocean, going to a museum, or spending the day at an amusement park. These activities can be done once a week during the summer, or you can plan them less often. It is important for you to realize that it does not have to cost an arm and a leg to let your kids have a good time.
By doing the large activities once a week, you can fill the rest of your down time during the week with combinations of the small and medium things to do. There will of course be times that your kids will just want to be free to play on their own. Rest time will also be a must. You can see that your summer does not have to be a stressful time. Plan in advance for those small, medium, and large activities and you should be set.
