Apple’s iPhone
series has always been known for quality and class in applications and
with each passing year, the apps are becoming more innovative, the games
being no exception. From First Person Shooters and Role Playing Games
to casual puzzle
games and classics the likes of Tetris, there isn’t a genre iPhone game
developers haven’t explored. Heck, even a version of the popular
“Street Fighter IV” VS Fighter has made it to the smartphone and
apparently, it’s not bad at all.
So here i have compiled a list of some
of the Top iPhone Games on App Store that have been greatly appreciated
by players and reviewers alike.
Angry Birds
Clickgamer.com’s Angry Birds is one of
the best-selling iPhone games in the App Store. The objective of the
game is to eliminate the pigs in each level with a variety of “Angry
Birds”, each with a unique ability, launched at their green nemeses via a
slingshot. The physics-based gameplay is simple and extremely
addictive and the sounds are just hilarious. Price: $0.99.
TETRIS
EA deserves much applause for bringing
everyone’s favorite classic mobile game to the iPhone. Tetris comes with
an assortment of new playing modes and despite the relatively high
price tag, is currently among the most downloaded games in the App Store
with over a million downloads and counting. Price $4.99.
Doodle Jump
Lima Sky claims that its
platform-jumping game, Doodle Jump, is “Insanely Addictive”, and rightly
so. The game is known for its high replay value, piquing greater
interest each time it is played. Doodle Jump uses the iPhone’s
accelerometer to guide its lime-green protagonist left and right as it
moves towards higher platforms. Price: $0.99.
Peggle
Originally developed for the PC by
PopCap, Peggle has gained much popularity as an iPhone app. It is a
casual puzzle game that presents the player with the task of shooting
down pegs with a limited number of balls. AppVee’s Erik Fikkert labels
it “a shining example of what we should be expecting in iPhone games as
far as quality, sound and replay value” are concerned. Price: $4.99.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Rockstar’s GTA franchise is pure genius,
quality and fun galore and Chinatown Wars is no exception. The game,
like all other GTA titles, guarantees hours of quality, free-roaming
gameplay even after the gripping storyline is complete. It was
originally released for Nintendo DS and PSP. Price: $9.99.
Zen Bound
Secret
Exit’s Zen Bound is a unique puzzle game that involves looping a rope
around irregularly shaped 3D objects with the aim of covering the
objects’ surface with as little rope as possible. Owing to its unique
gameplay, Zen Bound earned the honor of “Excellence in 3D” in the 5th Internation Mobile Gaming Awards in 2008. Price: $4.99
Rolando 2: Quest for the Golden Orchid
Sequel to ngmoco’s much-admired
“Rolando”, Rolando 2: Quest for the Golden Orchid has received even
greater acclaim than its forerunner. The object of the game remains the
same – guiding the Rolandos to safety through various levels. The high
price tag on the game is justified by its unique, non-linear gameplay,
great graphics and quality sound. Price: $9.99.
Fruit ninja
Halfbrick Studios really nailed it with
the gameplay that governs Fruit Ninja. The game is the definition of
innovation, the object being to slice fruit as it balloons onto the
screen while avoiding the occasional bombs thrown in. The game provides
its users with hours of addictive, fruit-slicing fun for a price of just
$0.99.
Plants Vs Zombies
PopCap’s Plants Vs Zombies for the
iPhone is a tower defense game that takes a funny angle on the zombie
invasion concept. The player is to protect his home from a zombie
onslaught with an arsenal of – get this – plants. The game is a port of
the original PC version. Price: $2.99.
N.O.V.A – Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance
First Person Shooters don’t really go
well with the iPhone. Gameloft’s N.O.V.A., however, is an exception.
With a Halo-like gameplay, great graphics and fantastic sound, the game
is arguably the finest iPhone FPS out there and a must buy for all fans
of the genre. Price: $6.99.
