I've written the following article to inform you of the history
of Hot Air Balloons. I hope the following article is informative.
The first hot air balloon was lauched on the 19th September 1783 by a gentleman called Pilatre De Rozier. He called it a 'Aerostat Reveillon'. The first lucky eyes to see the ground from a great height from a hot air balloon where from a rooster, a duck and a sheep. They stayed in the air for 15 minutes before cashing back down to earth. Once this success was shown two months later a manned attempt happened on the 21st November 1783 by Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier who where French brothers. The balloon took off from the middle of Paris and stayed in the air for a similar time as before but with obviously a lot more weight in the basket.
Two years after this manned attempt a hot air balloon flew across the English Channel in 1785 by Jean Peirre Blanchard and John Jefferies; a French and American duo. Later that year Pilatre de Rozier attempted another flight across the English Channel with a combination of a hydrogen balloon and hot air balloon tied together. Unfortunately this resulted in his death as the balloon exploded.
In 1793 George Washington was present for the first balloon flight in North America. Jean Peirre Blanchard flew the balloon for plenty to see.
August of 1932 saw a Swiss scientist called Auguste Piccard be the first person to achieve a manned flight to the Stratosphere. He rose to an incredible height of 52,498 feet, setting an altitude record. Once this was achieved many people aimed and succeeded to break this record.
A record was help for twenty years from 1935 to 1955 of 72,395 feet which was achieved by a balloon explorer.
