Procrastination - Gangnam Style?

Friday, November 30, 2012
Even when we mean to finish something and have the best intentions, things do not always work out as planned. Many of us turn to web surfing or other forms of entertainment, even when we have work to do. Videos, like the currently popular Gangnam Style, on YouTube are one of the biggest reasons for procrastination for many individuals. Getting over this and focusing on what is important is possible, you just need to know how to start.
In the age we live in now, procrastination is easier than ever. One of the popular ways to do this is to surf the web and watch videos for hours on end. Gangnam Style is one of those new music videos that has attracted a large amount of attention and continues to be the go-to when someone wants to relax and get away from stressful work. While this is good when you are taking a break, it is far from that when it cuts into you doing the work you should be doing. Social media and entertainment may provide you with some fun here and there, but they might end up doing damage, too
While these things may be tempting, it is important to remember where procrastination leads. For those people who are supposed to be doing work, this means you are choosing those hours of fun over your paycheck. This can put your employment in jeopardy, something no person wants. As for students, procrastination leads to lower grades and a lot more stress when deadlines begin to creep closer.

To avoid such things, you need to learn how to better manage your time and do the work you should be doing. Set up schedules and try to keep yourself on track. Make sure you have everything planned out well so that you are not skipping work to watch your music videos and procrastinate. With few to no holes in your plans, you can actually begin doing your school and/or regular work as you should be.
Once you start getting the ball rolling and becoming a little more focused on what is important, you can see phenomenal results. You will be getting work in on time, what you submit will be of higher quality because it is less about that last minute rush, and you leave yourself open to more opportunities with your work or school. While you may not be able to sing "Oppan Gangnam Style" or do the dance quite as often, you will be able to do better with your work.
No matter the activity that tries to pull you into procrastinating, you can get over it. This is about finding a schedule and system that works into your life and gives you the structure you need to do what you need to do. If you worry that this means you no longer get to have fun or experience the same joy, you need to remember that it is far from that. Learning how to stop procrastinating so much just means you can focus on work more and set those activities to the side for when you have breaks or are off. Doing so allows for more growth and success in your work life, all without losing the fun.
