10 Top Songs of 2010

2010 has been a colorful year, particularly for the pop genre. Several new-entries made it to the charts this year, adding to the vast variety of hits to choose from, and making this one tough list to compile. But hey – anything for the readers. So here it is: our list of the top songs of 2010 based on chart performances, Grammy nominations and over all popularity. A link to each song is provided at the end of every description.

YouTuber turned pop and R&B star, Justin Bieber exhibited much growth as a singer this year, with what might be his best single yet. The track landed a place in the top ten charts of several countries around the globe and in July of this year, ‘Baby’ became the most viewed YouTube video of all time. “Airplanes” starts with a soft piano riff overlapped by the voice of Hayley Williams of Paramore, breaking into a simple but gripping chorus contrasted by a spell of rap. The success of Bobby’s hip-hop single led to a sequel (Airplanes II) featuring Eminem in addition to Hayley Williams. This mood and melody of this catchy, fast-paced electro-hop track fits very well with its lyrics – pour enough booze down your gullet and you’ll be flying like a jet.
