It is believed that the chips were developed more than 150 years ago  in the U.S.. Legend has it that in one of the elite American  restaurants, the customer (railroad magnate Vanderbilt) did not like the  specialty restaurant “French fries” and he returned it to the kitchen,  with the claim that the potatoes are too thick. The chef has decided to  play a trick on the client and the sliced potatoes in thin slices and  fry in oil serve. 
Surprisingly, the client really liked the dish, and since then the restaurant’s menu, a new dish – potato chips.
